Ramon Zayas

Welcome. I'm Ramón Zayas.

My story begins in two homelands — the Bronx and Puerto Rico — and everything I’ve built comes from the mix of those worlds. The rhythms of Patillas, the voices of my family, the culture we carried north, and the history that shaped us long before I was born. Now, in my seventy‑second year of life, I feel a responsibility to gather what should not be forgotten. This site isn’t about reliving every chapter. It’s about preserving the ones that matter.

This is my legacy project.

It’s a long‑form record of my life, my culture, and the lessons earned along the way — and just as importantly, it is the story of the Zayas family as lived through me. Our Puerto Rican lineage. Our migrations from Patillas to the Bronx. Our traditions, our memories, and the roots that bind generations together. Some of that history is loud and celebrated; some of it is quiet, fragile, and nearly lost.

My late sister Miriam is part of that legacy. She died before I was born and was buried in an unmarked grave in New York — a life barely recorded, a story almost erased. Including her here is intentional. This project exists so that no one in our family, past or future, disappears into silence. Every name matters. Every story matters. Every life deserves to be remembered.

The goals of this project are clear:

  • To preserve Puerto Rican family history, so future generations know where our people come from and who our people come from.

  • To document the culture that shaped us, from Patillas to the Bronx and every place our family has called home.

  • To honor the people whose stories were never fully told, including Miriam, whose memory deserves a place in our history.

  • To create a living archive that keeps our roots from fading — a place where descendants can return and find themselves.

  • To leave behind a blueprint of resilience, grounded in heritage, identity, and truth.

  • To ensure our legacy continues, not as nostalgia, but as a foundation for those who will carry it forward.

This site is the next chapter of that work — a cultural record, a family archive, a bridge between the past and the future. Puerto Rico lives in our blood, our stories, and our determination to remember.

And if my life has taught me anything, it’s this:

Where you start is only the first line. What you choose to carry forward — that becomes your legacy.
